Hello, guys. I am back again. Hope you guys are all fine. In my last posts, I had some android apps, games & some information around the world. This time I have something interesting & also familiar to all of you. For many many years, we are celebrating birthdays in almost a common way. That is familiar to all of us.
Like in a birthday party, we have balloons, birthday cake, candles etc. This tradition is followed by almost every person in the world who celebrates birthday. But do u know from where this type of birthday celebration came from? I will tell you some information about the origin, the history of birthday celebration.
Birthday celebration: Birthday's are celebrating for many many years. Even in ancient times birthday's were celebrated grandly. It was thought that evil spirit roaming around rich people. In order to be safe in the new year from those evil spirit, birthday's were celebrated in a grand fashion. Actually the ritual of celebrating birthday is started with a tradition called 'Pagan'. This is the history of celebrating birthday's in early times. From then we are celebrating our own birthday's in same fashion. But not for the actual historical purpose.
Cake: There is a tradition of cake for many years. In ancient times Greeks used to make cakes almost in a shape of moon. They do so for honoring 'Artemis', the goddess of moon. In the middle period, to celebrate Jesus's birthday, the Germans used to make cakes in such a way that it seems like little Jesus is covered with a cloth.
Then after some times little children's birthday's were celebrated. It was called 'Kinderfest'. They used to think that they would be able to safe their children from evil spirits. But birthday cake is not used in every country during that time.
Candles: Let's talk about the candles used over the cake. This is also came from ancient Greece. To celebrate the birthday of their moon goddess 'Artemis', they used to make cake and put candles on it so that it would glaze like moon. They used to think that 'Artemis' is watching this from moon. And when they put off the candles, they used to think that the smoke is carrying their prayers to 'Artemis'. German's also used candles on cake. They used to put small candles around the cake & a large candle in the middle. There were 12 straight lines in that large candle indicates 12 months of a year. They used to call it 'Light of Life'.
Birthday song: For many years we are singing "Happy Birthday to you" song in an occasion of birthday. But do we know from where this song came from? Actually the original song is "Good Morning to you". This song was created by two american sisters Patty Hill & Mildred J.Hill. With time the lyrics of the song is changed but the melody is unchanged.
So, now you know the birthday celebration history. Now think for some time what you did in your previous birthday's.
